Monthly Cost of Living

Prior to making any move it is important to have a good idea of the cost of living in your new home. This is even more important when your move is taking you to a new country.  As we have pointed out in other sections, you cannot assume that anything will be the same as what you are accustomed to.

The cost of living in Germany varies greatly from city to city. The major metropolitan areas are generally more expensive than the rural areas.

Major Providers

Most utilities in Germany are deregulated, although all are monitored by federal agencies. This means that there is a great deal of competition. In many cases meters are only read once per year and the monthly bills are averages.

Telephone, both landline and mobile, and internet is dominated by T-Mobile, Deutsche Telekom, and Vodaphone.

The yearly television license is €217.
